When shoulders get painful, it can affect almost all of our daily tasks. And guess what? It’s NOT the shoulder’s fault! So often, tightness in our upper back and throughout the rib cage causes decreased motion there that then limits our shoulder blades which then asks our shoulders to move TOO much! This stretch might look like it’s for the shoulder at first glance, but please listen closely!

This stretch is targeting the RIBS! And of course, I’m all about noticing patterns in our bodies and hitting multiple areas so this stretch is also great at revealing tightness in our IT bands (outer part of the quad area) and in our hips. Then we know to address those too so we can have better rotation and less strain on the spine. It’s so important to get our shoulder blades moving and thoracic (upper back) spine mobile to take stress off the shoulder and have optimal motion! So get those ribs open. Once you identify tight areas, breathe deeply into them and then also follow up by using the ball in those areas. Click HERE to go to the video on using the ball! And don’t forget, if you’re still having persistent pain, you can always come in for our FREE discovery session to see if we’re a good fit to solve your problem together!
